Rafting & Adventure — The Main Draw
The Kali River is Dandeli's real headline act. White-water rafting runs on regulated stretches, mainly around the Ganeshgudi and JLR camp areas, with trained guides and mandatory safety equipment — a genuine adrenaline activity, not a gentle float. Beyond rafting, kayaking, ziplining, and trekking round out the adventure side.

Formerly known as Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve, the Kali Tiger Reserve was declared a tiger reserve status only in 2007 — much more recent than Bandipur (1973). It's Karnataka's second-largest wildlife sanctuary, and the state's second elephant reserve after the Mysuru Elephant Reserve.
Elephants, gaur, and a genuinely strong bird population are commonly encountered. The standout fact worth knowing: Dandeli is one of the few tiger reserves in India with regular sightings of the melanistic leopard, or black panther — a sighting that's a rare bonus almost everywhere else in Karnataka. As always, no sighting is guaranteed on any single safari.

A sprawling bungalow right on the banks of the Kali River, established in 1990 — even before the tiger reserve was created.
