Our perspective on this property

Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel is the most dramatically different property in the JLR portfolio. It is not a forest camp or eco-resort. It is a shimmering white Italianate palace built in 1921 by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV to host the Viceroy of India — his most distinguished guest.

The palace has 7 room and suite categories. From the Heritage Room and Deluxe Room at Rs 4,914 to the Viceroy Suite at Rs 28,320 per person. All include breakfast, welcome drink and access to all palace facilities. The Italian marble staircase, Belgian crystal chandeliers, Persian rugs and landscaped gardens overlooking Chamundi Hills create an atmosphere that no modern hotel can replicate.

Our honest note to callers: this is a 100+ year old heritage property. The JLR website itself mentions the swimming pool is temporarily under maintenance — confirm before booking. Some areas show their age. But the fundamental experience of sleeping in a real palace in rooms that hosted the Viceroy of India is unique in all of Karnataka.
